At STC, we are committed to consistently delivering the right information to save our clients time, money and grief. Instilling the right safety plans and procedures in your workplace will not only keep your workers as safe as possible, but also save you money in the long run. Here’s everything you need to know about how safety plans and procedures can lower your insurance:

Lowering Business Insurance Costs

Most industries involve some form of risk to workers, but did you know that you can actually save money by implementing policies to mitigate those risks? When risk is involved in business, so is insurance. By implementing safety policies and adhering to them on a daily basis, there are tons of ways that you can save money. By avoiding the legal fees associated with workplace accidents, you will save money on litigation and worker’s compensation insurance.

How a Good Safety Record Helps

It’s simple, insurance companies are more willing to offer you lower insurance rates if they know you are dedicated to safety. You have to earn their trust by demonstrating years of good safety records before they are willing to offer you lower rates, however. That’s why implementing safety policies and procedurs from day one is always recommended.

Saving Money on Business Insurance

Working closely with your insurance provider or agent is a good way to ensure you are able to realize lower rates. The truth is that insurance companies use a wide variety of tools to calculate costs and safety plays the biggest factor in those costs. The statistics used by insurance providers will save you costs down the road, all while keeping your employees safe.

No matter how you choose to prepare your workplace for lower insurance, STC is here to help guide you through every step. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, from onsite safety staffing to safety consulting to help keep you prepared for any situation. At STC, we are committed to keeping our clients safe in every situation. Fire safety is certainly no exception. Whether it’s a risk of wildfires or burns on the skin, fire is incredibly dangerous to personal safety in all its forms. Here’s what you need to know to keep yourself and others safe by practicing proper fire safety at all times:

Test Smoke Alarms Regularly

When working with any sort of flammable substances or equipment inside, it’s crucial that you are positive your smoke detection equipment is always functioning properly. No matter what industry you work in, it’s always best practice to regularly check your smoke alarms to ensure the batteries are working, charged, and ready to alert you of potential danger.

Create an Escape Plan

It’s easy to let the ebbs and flows of everyday work distract you from creating proper safety procedures in the workplace. It’s essential to always have a plan in case of emergency, especially dealing with fires in the workplace. If a fire starts, your employees should already know exactly where to go to avoid any potential dangers related to the fire.

Practice Proper Fire Safety

Whether it’s heating, electrical, or smoking, fires can start from a wide variety of sources. To keep your workplace safe, you need to know what potential hazards come from each source. There are proper precautions, as outlined by OSHA, for every source so be sure to keep up with updated guidelines to keep your workplace as safe as possible.

Always Check Your Surrounding Area

Things like chemical spills, improper ventilation and improper storage can cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly. You need to examine every inch of your working area before beginning work with something that could potentially cause a fire. If the hazard can be removed, remove it. If it can’t be removed, it’s best to work elsewhere if possible.

No matter how you choose to prepare your workplace for proper fire safety, STC is here to help guide you through every step. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, from onsite safety staffing to safety consulting to help keep you prepared for any situation. At STC, we believe in celebrating those that take safety as seriously as possible. One of our employees working for our Georgia branch, Saul Piña, is a prime example of the kind of safety excellence that we strive to achieve with every job. Here’s everything you need to know about celebrating Saul and all that he does to keep our clients, employees and himself safe on the job:

About Saul Piña & STC

Saul brings a diverse skill set derived from his rapid exposure to our growing portfolio of high-profile clients and the strategic alliances we have formed with them. Saul is an energetic and passionate Spanish-speaking safety professional that always works to achieve more. He is not only an Authorized OSHA instructor, but also an official CERTA Roof Torch instructor.

Saul has been with STC for over a year now, with half of his time spent under the title of Field Manager, and the other half as Relationship Manager. The responsibilities of an employee at STC are often hard to define one by one, but easily quantified by the following: Everything we do must center around preserving the world’s most precious resource – human life.

A Day in the Life of STC Safety

Our responsibilities take many shapes and forms. This could be a site job site visit at 2:30 A.M. to make sure a concrete pour is running safely or training on different equipment such as forklift, boom lift, spyder lift or a torching apparatus. This could be asking an employee to stop work immediately because his life is in danger, and it could also be quickly putting your hand on their back and showing them there is a better way. The responsibilities at STC are many, but they all lead to one goal. Protecting the lives of employees in various industries, no matter what.

“Just like I do, I know there are many workers that leave their house knowing that there are people there who are expecting them to make it back every day. There are children, spouses, families, or partners that are awaiting the return of that employee. Workplace safety transcends beyond the income that the worker brings home. Workplace safety does not equal money or revenue. Workplace safety equals smiles, hugs, fun weekends, trips, vacations, graduations and a myriad of other things. Approximately 4,500 people were involved in an occupational fatality, without workplace safety that number increases exponentially! Meanwhile, all that was listed before, decreases.” – Saul Piña

No matter how you choose to celebrate Sauls’s achievement and dedication to safety, STC is always here to help you make safety simple with an entire workforce committed to keeping people safe. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, instructor-led training and safety consulting services that will help build a safety culture around your business. At STC, we believe that safety is the most important part of every job, no matter how big or small. That’s why we are so excited to celebrate National Safety Month this month and continue our dedication to preserving human life every day of the year. Here’s how you can make safety a priority in your workplace to celebrate National Safety Month the right way with STC:

Keep Your Safety Plans Up-to-Date

It’s easy to go months without updating your workplace safety plans, especially during months without incident. When you work in construction, there are tons of dangerous situations and new kinds of incidents can occur without you even realizing they were an issue in the first place. As you take your walks of the job site, it’s important to look for specific hazards and update your safety plans accordingly to keep your entire crew safe.

Let Those with Experience Lead the Way

During your regular safety meetings, you can let those with more experience lead the way by explaining what they have experienced with certain jobs in the past. More likely than not, they have had to learn things the hard way and can pass that knowledge onto the younger members of your crew. You never know what kind of situations may occur, but those with first-hand experience will understand how to better prepare your crew for what to expect.

Celebrate National Safety Month

One of the most important things you can do for your crew is to make safety a top priority in your workplace. When your crew has a safety culture that they can fall back on, they will not only keep themselves safer on the job but also keep those around them safe. Some of the best ways to implement a safety culture in your business are keeping training regular and celebrating the importance of safety all year long. You never know when you’ll need the training most.

No matter how you choose to prepare your employees for National Safety Month, STC is here to make safety simple with our services. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, from onsite safety staffing to safety consulting to help prepare your employees for every situation. To celebrate our 10th anniversary, and exemplify our first core value of passionately helping others win, STC decided to partner with UpBring, an organization dedicated to children’s well-being. Through your generous donations and support, we were able to surpass our goal and raised $35,250 for UpBring. We want to thank everyone that’s helped us reach our fundraising goals for UpBring.

About Our Partnership with UpBring

In the same way STC works to preserve lives in the workplace through safety consulting and onsite staffing, we chose UpBring as our fundraising effort because they work hard to save children’s lives. We hoped to raise funds specifically for UpBring’s BeReal program, a supervised independent living program that helps youth who have aged out of foster care.

Supporting UpBring’s BeReal Program

UpBring’s BeReal program saves children’s lives and holds a special place in STC’s hearts. The BeReal program serves the community by helping young people in their journey toward independence. With your generous support, UpBring can mentor and educate these kids as well as provide them a great apartment to live in as they grow and gain stability to become future professionals and lead great lives.

Thank You for All of Your Support

The outpouring for support of UpBring has been tremendous. STC wants to thank everyone who donated for their generosity. It’s clear UpBring’s BeReal program will provide a lasting impact on the community and on the young people it helps. This is a cause that is close to our hearts, and we are honored to have the support of our community in helping them thrive.

Helping people in the workplace with health and safety training is what we’re all about at STC. That’s why we partnered with UpBring this year—they help our community’s most vulnerable children improve their lives. We are, again, very grateful to everyone who made a donation to this wonderful cause. If you want to learn more about how STC helps employees stay safe in the workplace through various programs such as managed safety services and safety training and consulting, contact us today or check out our blog.

Holiday season is in full swing now and that means plenty of holiday gatherings are underway. At many of these gatherings, alcohol will be served. Inside and outside of the workplace, safety is always a concern at STC. To stay safe at holiday gatherings, here are some tips to avoid holiday season drunk driving from STC.

Safe Driving Tips for Avoiding Holiday Season Drunk Driving

From about mid-December through January 1, this festive season can be ruined by drunk driving. In 2018 during the holiday season, for instance, as many as 285 road deaths were the result of drunk driving, all of which were preventable if precautions had been taken. Here are some tips to avoid holiday season drunk driving:

  • Plan ahead about how to get home safely.
  • Use ridesharing, ride-hailing, or taxis as options to get home safely.
  • Make certain you have a safe spot for pick-up.
  • Pick a designated driver.
  • Make sure as designated driver you are 100% committed to sobriety.
  • Call law enforcement if you see an impaired driver on the road.
  • Take keys away from anyone wanting to drive drunk and ensure they have a safe way home.
  • Wear seatbelts while in your vehicle.

Driving While Intoxicated Will Land You in Jail

Remember, too, holiday season drunk driving is against the law. If you don’t stay sober when driving, and you’re pulled over by law enforcement, you’re very likely to be charged with a DWI. You’ll also likely find yourself in jail and facing serious legal consequences from fines to losing your license.

Drug-Impaired Driving is Also Dangerous

Alcohol isn’t the only intoxicant that can land you in trouble—if you’re getting high on illegal or even legal drugs and getting behind the wheel, you’re a danger on the road and you can get a DUI or DWI. Be cautious also if you’re taking any medication, prescription or over-the-counter. If you feel drowsy or unusual after taking the medicine, avoid getting behind the wheel.

At STC, we’re always concerned about safety, whether in the workplace or out. That’s why we want to make sure you’re aware of what to do about holiday season drunk driving. Contact us to learn more about our managed safety consulting services and safety consulting or check out our blog.
