Ryan Brence has been with STC for a little over three and a half years. Each day, he comes to work more committed than the day before to create positive change in our client’s safety procedures. He has risen through the ranks during his time here at STC. Starting as a Business Development Manager, he later transitioned into the role of Account Executive. We are proud to announce that recently, he received another promotion to become the Area Manager for our Dallas office. We are so proud of how far his initiative will continue to take him.

About Saul Piña & STC

Saul brings a diverse skill set derived from his rapid exposure to our growing portfolio of high-profile clients and the strategic alliances we have formed with them. Saul is an energetic and passionate Spanish-speaking safety professional that always works to achieve more. He is not only an Authorized OSHA instructor, but also an official CERTA Roof Torch instructor.

Saul has been with STC for over a year now, with half of his time spent under the title of Field Manager, and the other half as Relationship Manager. The responsibilities of an employee at STC are often hard to define one by one, but easily quantified by the following: Everything we do must center around preserving the world’s most precious resource – human life.

A Day in the Life of STC Safety

Our responsibilities take many shapes and forms. This could be a site job site visit at 2:30 A.M. to make sure a concrete pour is running safely or training on different equipment such as forklift, boom lift, spyder lift or a torching apparatus. This could be asking an employee to stop work immediately because his life is in danger, and it could also be quickly putting your hand on their back and showing them there is a better way. The responsibilities at STC are many, but they all lead to one goal. Protecting the lives of employees in various industries, no matter what.

“Just like I do, I know there are many workers that leave their house knowing that there are people there who are expecting them to make it back every day. There are children, spouses, families, or partners that are awaiting the return of that employee. Workplace safety transcends beyond the income that the worker brings home. Workplace safety does not equal money or revenue. Workplace safety equals smiles, hugs, fun weekends, trips, vacations, graduations and a myriad of other things. Approximately 4,500 people were involved in an occupational fatality, without workplace safety that number increases exponentially! Meanwhile, all that was listed before, decreases.” – Saul Piña

Through your generous donations and support, we were able to surpass our goal and raised $35,250 for UpBring. We want to thank everyone that’s helped us reach our fundraising goals for UpBring.

About Our Partnership with UpBring

In the same way STC works to preserve lives in the workplace through safety consulting and onsite staffing, we chose UpBring as our fundraising effort because they work hard to save children’s lives. We hoped to raise funds specifically for UpBring’s BeReal program, a supervised independent living program that helps youth who have aged out of foster care.

Supporting UpBring’s BeReal Program

UpBring’s BeReal program saves children’s lives and holds a special place in STC’s hearts. The BeReal program serves the community by helping young people in their journey toward independence. With your generous support, UpBring can mentor and educate these kids as well as provide them a great apartment to live in as they grow and gain stability to become future professionals and lead great lives.

Tips to Avoid Holiday Season Drunk Driving from STC

Holiday season is in full swing now and that means plenty of holiday gatherings are underway. At many of these gatherings, alcohol will be served. Inside and outside of the workplace, safety is always a concern at STC. To stay safe at holiday gatherings, here are some tips to avoid holiday season drunk driving from STC.

Safe Driving Tips for Avoiding Holiday Season Drunk Driving

From about mid-December through January 1, this festive season can be ruined by drunk driving. In 2018 during the holiday season, for instance, as many as 285 road deaths were the result of drunk driving, all of which were preventable if precautions had been taken. Here are some tips to avoid holiday season drunk driving:

  • Plan ahead about how to get home safely.
  • Use ridesharing, ride-hailing, or taxis as options to get home safely.
  • Make certain you have a safe spot for pick-up.
  • Pick a designated driver.
  • Make sure as designated driver you are 100% committed to sobriety.
  • Call law enforcement if you see an impaired driver on the road.
  • Take keys away from anyone wanting to drive drunk and ensure they have a safe way home.
  • Wear seatbelts while in your vehicle.

Driving While Intoxicated Will Land You in Jail

Remember, too, holiday season drunk driving is against the law. If you don’t stay sober when driving, and you’re pulled over by law enforcement, you’re very likely to be charged with a DWI. You’ll also likely find yourself in jail and facing serious legal consequences from fines to losing your license.

Drug-Impaired Driving is Also Dangerous

Alcohol isn’t the only intoxicant that can land you in trouble—if you’re getting high on illegal or even legal drugs and getting behind the wheel, you’re a danger on the road and you can get a DUI or DWI. Be cautious also if you’re taking any medication, prescription or over-the-counter. If you feel drowsy or unusual after taking the medicine, avoid getting behind the wheel.

Alan Hurtado has worked hard to rise through the ranks of our organization due to his dedication to helping as many people as possible. He has always been eager to learn the best ways to help our clients and has always shown a natural leadership ability that sets him apart from others. Through his work, he is responsible for organizing, scheduling and executing our 1,500-plus inspections and 400-plus trainings, which impact more than 20,000 lives annually.

Celebrating This Wonderful Achievement

Alan was nominated to receive this award by promoting a cycle of continuous improvement within our organization and creating initiatives focused on measurable outcomes in safety.
