About Ryan Brence & STC

Ryan Brence has been with STC for a little over three and a half years. Each day, he comes to work more committed than the day before to create positive change in our client’s safety procedures. He has risen through the ranks during his time here at STC. Starting as a Business Development Manager, he later transitioned into the role of Account Executive. We are proud to announce that recently, he received another promotion to become the Area Manager for our Dallas office. We are so proud of how far his initiative will continue to take him.

If we can support this cause with our clients, the results and outcomes will speak for themselves.

“My greatest achievement at STC is helping establish benchmarks for our clients to achieve overall customer success through our safety services. I am proud of developing STC’s Safety Culture Survey that helps analyze where our clients currently are in their safety journey to determine how STC can most effectively assist them in the road ahead.” – Ryan Brence

At STC, we believe in celebrating those that take safety as seriously as possible. One of our employees working for our Georgia branch, Saul Piña, is a prime example of the kind of safety excellence that we strive to achieve with every job. Here’s everything you need to know about celebrating Saul and all that he does to keep our clients, employees and himself safe on the job:

About Saul Piña & STC

Saul brings a diverse skill set derived from his rapid exposure to our growing portfolio of high-profile clients and the strategic alliances we have formed with them. Saul is an energetic and passionate Spanish-speaking safety professional that always works to achieve more. He is not only an Authorized OSHA instructor, but also an official CERTA Roof Torch instructor.

Saul has been with STC for over a year now, with half of his time spent under the title of Field Manager, and the other half as Relationship Manager. The responsibilities of an employee at STC are often hard to define one by one, but easily quantified by the following: Everything we do must center around preserving the world’s most precious resource – human life.

A Day in the Life of STC Safety

Our responsibilities take many shapes and forms. This could be a site job site visit at 2:30 A.M. to make sure a concrete pour is running safely or training on different equipment such as forklift, boom lift, spyder lift or a torching apparatus. This could be asking an employee to stop work immediately because his life is in danger, and it could also be quickly putting your hand on their back and showing them there is a better way. The responsibilities at STC are many, but they all lead to one goal. Protecting the lives of employees in various industries, no matter what.

“Just like I do, I know there are many workers that leave their house knowing that there are people there who are expecting them to make it back every day. There are children, spouses, families, or partners that are awaiting the return of that employee. Workplace safety transcends beyond the income that the worker brings home. Workplace safety does not equal money or revenue. Workplace safety equals smiles, hugs, fun weekends, trips, vacations, graduations and a myriad of other things. Approximately 4,500 people were involved in an occupational fatality, without workplace safety that number increases exponentially! Meanwhile, all that was listed before, decreases.” – Saul Piña

No matter how you choose to celebrate Sauls’s achievement and dedication to safety, STC is always here to help you make safety simple with an entire workforce committed to keeping people safe. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, instructor-led training and safety consulting services that will help build a safety culture around your business. At STC, we are dedicated to celebrating proper safety techniques in every way possible, no matter the situation. This month, we are celebrating safety when working with electricity in honor of National Electric Safety Month! Working with electricity can be one of the most dangerous jobs on the job site, so here’s what you need to know to stay safe with STC:

National Electric Safety Month

Throughout the entire month of May, STC will be celebrating National Electrical Safety Month to spread awareness about the dangers of working with electricity. Without taking proper safety precautions, working with electricity can lead to lifelong disabilities and even death. If you work with electricity, there’s never a bad time to refresh your knowledge on electrical safety!

Energy Resilience Campaign

Each year, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) chooses a different theme surrounding National Electric Safety Month. This year, the theme is “Energy Resilience” and will focus on how emerging technologies, such as electric cars, photovoltaics and different types of energy storage systems can help workplaces and homes become more energy-efficient.

Electric Safety Tips for the Workplace

The best way to stay safe when working with electricity is to prevent all possible contact with live wires by shutting down electricity in the building entirely. If you must work with live electricity, then ensuring safety from all possible forms of contact is essential. Ensure all employees are following proper lockout/tagout procedures and are wearing appropriate PPE.

No matter how you choose to protect workers from the dangers of electricity, STC is always here to help your entire organization learn to stay safe. We offer a wide variety of managed safety services, from onsite safety staffing to safety consulting to help prepare your employees for every situation. Want to learn more about STC’s services? The dangers of heat and falls are well documented and commonplace in the workplace, but did you know that fatigue can also play a major role in the safety of your employees? Fatigue-related incidents are more common than most people think. Here is everything you need to know about the dangers of fatigue in the workplace from the safety experts at STC:

Dangers of Fatigue in the Workplace

There are many factors that can contribute to an employee becoming fatigued, like daylight savings time and being overworked. Studies have shown that more than 43% of workers are sleep-deprived and that safety performance is decreased by tired employees. The employees most at risk of fatigue are those working night shifts, long shifts and/or irregular hours.

Dangers of Fatigue While Driving

The dangers of fatigue in the workplace can become even more serious when an employee is asked to operate a vehicle. Driving while fatigued has been shown to be nearly as dangerous as driving under the influence, with losing two hours of sleep having a similar effect as drinking three beers. Studies show that employees are three times more likely to crash their vehicle while fatigued. More than 5,000 people died from fatigue-related accidents in 2014 alone.

The Cost of Fatigue for Employers

While fatigue has a massive effect on the wellbeing of employees, it can also cost employers a large amount of money per year. Since productivity can be greatly affected by sleep deprivation, job performance decreases as employees become fatigued. It is estimated that fatigued workers’ decrease in productivity can cost employers up to $3,100 per employee annually.

No matter how you choose to care for the safety of your employees, STC is here to help guide you through every step. Our managed safety services are designed to help you increase productivity by making safety simple and creating a safety culture in your workplace. At Safety Training and Compliance, safety is our highest priority, but the benefits our clients receive are much more meaningful than simply achieving OSHA compliance. We work hard to deliver an experience that transforms the safety and culture of every client. Here are the ways that STC partners with companies to deliver meaningful outcomes and improve their culture:

The STC Approach to Improving Culture

When you work with STC, safety training is only a fraction of the benefits you’ll receive. We are dedicated to understanding every detail of your business so that we can improve the way your team and company operates. Our team is highly motivated to help companies develop a safety culture based on increased productivity, employee satisfaction and improved outcomes.

Putting in Hours vs. Culture Building

STC does business differently to help our clients get more out of our services. Instead of the hourly billing structure that is common in our industry, we form partnerships based on getting the job done right. We don’t stop putting in hard work for your business when you’ve reached your allotted service time. We work with you until we’ve achieved a long-lasting safety culture.

The Benefits of Culture Building in the Workplace

The role a company’s culture plays on the success of their business cannot be underestimated. Research shows that culture building in the workplace can create a motivated community of employees that work well together. A solid company culture will create a clear message and an attainable goal for everyone to follow. We’ve seen it a countless number of times in our clients.

No matter how you choose to improve the safety of your business, STC is here to create a long-lasting partnership rooted in your success. We will latch onto the traction your company already has and work from there to create better results, build company culture and improve the safety of your workforce.
